November 20, 2002 edition
Vol.1, Issue 2
Dearest RFPI Supporters and Listeners,
Greetings from Costa Rica! We hope you enjoyed our first edition of VISTA
Online last week and we look forward to our next monthly edition. In keeping with our promise of providing you with timely information at
the station, here is a short "blurb" about what's going on.
WHAT'S NEW AT RFPI?
In the past week we have been hard at work trying to solve our Internet
problems. As many of our listeners know, Democracy Now! is now back on
the air (hooray!), but we are still experiencing difficulties getting some of our other programs downloaded from the Internet. We are in the
process of installing our new Internet equipment and once the kinks have been worked out, we hope to be able to bring back the programs we
have been missing and also resume 24 hour live streaming from the RFPI
website. The time frame for this is looking like one or two more weeks,
so please bear with us!
Thanks to Charlie up in the US, we do have a "low-fi" live stream that
you can access from our website at zkyyzx.com. This stream is not
operational 24 hours a day, but can be heard between 0000 UTC and 0800
UTC approximately. (For those of you on the East Coast that's 7 p.m. to
3 a.m.) Try this out and let us know how it sounds!
THE RFPI "WISH LIST"
On the RFPI "Wish List" for this week are transportation solutions. At the
moment, we have only one VERY old car that is used to transport staff,
volunteers and students between Ciudad Colon and the station. At times
we are often trying to stuff seven or more volunteers into the car, resulting in one person usually having to ride in the trunk! This is a
very dangerous situation and seeing as the car breaks down about every
two weeks, we may have to resort to a shuttle system with James bringing
up volunteers one at a time on the back of his bike! As friends of the
environment, we would be more than happy to take public transportation,
but unfortunately none exists in this area at this time. So, in the spirit of the holiday season that is quickly approaching, RFPI sends
out a request for these small gifts:
1) An 8 person passenger van to transport RFPI workers; or
2) 10 bicycles for staffers to use to bike up the mountain to work.
If you, or anyone you know, are able to provide us with a transportation
solution, either materially or financially, please contact us immediately
via email at email@example.com.
